Found Object Frenzy
with Keely Barham
Rescheduled - TBA
Start rummaging for all of your favorite found objects, game pieces, charms, buttons and do-dads. Bring your found objects “as is” because these classes are all about learning how to drill your found objects made out of different materials, create your own fabulous trinkets out of bits and pieces, and incorporate new tools and skills that you can use daily in your art!
The Bracelet
All of your collected pieces and handmade trinkets will look great strung on this two tiered beaded bracelet. Learn a fast and easy stringing technique for the bracelet base, then incorporate beads and your found objects using fringing techniques for a fantastic and full charm bracelet.
The Necklace
Finally there is a great way to use all those favorite buttons you have been collecting. In this bead and button necklace you will learn stringing and branching techniques for creating a wonderful wearable. Also learn to make your own custom buttons with decorative papers, imagery and rubber stamps that will add real flair to your necklace. Add these techniques with more found do-dads and your necklace will be a real show piece.
The Supplies:
Students should bring: round and flat nose pliers, wire cutters, scissors, pencil, a Dremel with a 1/16” drill bit (bring your Dremel if you own one, otherwise some will be available to share, you’ll also need a smaller sized “collet” to fit the drill bit into your Dremel), a small paint brush, a small amount of decorative beads, size 11 and 8 seed beads in a few colors, a couple sheets of decorative paper that have a nice design or small images. Then raid your junk drawers for various found objects including buttons (lots of them), charms, shells, glass pieces, game pieces, small toys, pins, tiny light bulbs, hardware, etc. This list could go on and on but don’t worry, there is no need to bring everything but the kitchen sink. Just a nice little supply will make some really cool jewelry. And several different types of items will be available in class to use.
Optional: bead mat or work surface, personal lighting such as an Ott light
Instructor will provide: Clasps, Soft Flex beading wire and Fireline thread, beading needles, crimp beads, super glue gel, necklace cording, thread, glues, diamond glaze, rubber stamps and ink, decorative paper and imagery, clear buttons and button blanks for making custom buttons, and lots of found objects.
