Amber Shellac
with Sas Colby
October 11-12, 2008
Amber shellac has magic properties to add to your artwork. Think of the warmth of old gold, or a favorite amber necklace dripping over your art work like honey. Amber shellac can be used as a special paint to light up your art.
I will lead you through several exercises, first working in black and white to make strong compositions. Then we introduce the shellac and its special properties.
From that beginning we will add layers of tracing paper and drawings to make more complex and layered paintings and books.
On the second day we can experiment with cardboard constructions and file folders. I will show you how to use sand paper and shellac to distress and give your art a vintage look. We’ll be working with gesso, charcoal and matte medium on a variety of supports. Remember, some of the best art supplies come from the office supply and hardware store.
We’ll provide most of the supplies such as paper, charcoal, gesso, shellac, and denatured alcohol.
You bring your usual art kit of scissors, utility knife, drawing pencils, erasers, Glue stick, or other adhesive, straight edge, 16 oz. Jar of matte medium, 8 oz. Heavy gel, brushes, Container for water, and anything else you think you might want to add to your Paintings, such as collage material, paints and oil sticks, etc. Also, bring some cardboard --it can be a box you find on the street.
Additional details about this class will show up as they become available.
