Hidden Agendas: A daybook for alternative
correspondence and artful rumination
May 17th-18th (sat-sun) Resheduled (TBA)
with The ladies of Pod Post
(Carolee Gilligan Wheeler & Jennie Hinchcliff)
10 am - 5 pm; 1 hour for lunch and chat
For those of you that have not visited the Pod Post website and have not heard about Jennie Hinchcliff and Carolee Gilligan, these gals' mail art wearables, books, and paraphernalia definitely fall into the must see/must have category. Nobody knows mail art like The Pods. Carolee Pod is a master book artist and Jennie Pod is the mail art queen. I consider myself blessed to have these gifted and whimsical Bay Area artists coming down to teach. The Pods have unleashed mail box madness in the Parks neighborhood! Be there or be square! Please review Carol Parks' Class Policies.
Jennie and Carolee of Pod Post are magpie hunter-gatherers, traveling down the block and across the globe to find the trash and treasure that finds its way into handmade books, zines, and mail art. Join them as they hit Los Angeles to see what lurks in its trees, gutters, and townsfolk.
By the end of the weekend, each participant will have a beautifully bound softcover journal/daybook to take home, filled with all sorts of enticing pockets, inserts, and additions -- perfect for stuffing your journal chock full of photos, ephemera, inspiration and what-have-you. Carolee and Jennie plan on bringing plenty of treats and surprises to delight and inspire -- students should bring their unbridled enthusiasm and a hankering to experiment!

Day One will be filled with brainstorming, true tales of procrastination and success, page composition ideas, suggestions for making every day a transcontinental journey, and, in a more concrete manner, the creation of cover boards and the construction of envelopes, inserts, and fidgety additions to fill the pages of your journal.
Day Two will be spent binding your daybook together, perhaps wandering around looking for things in the cracks of the pavement, and discussing the difference between obligation and commitment. If time permits, Pods and participants will also spend time discussing low-tech page decoration techniques such as pochoir, stenciling, etc.
